You'll not beat the big software companies in number of features. One way to beat them is by being simpler. Cut all the unnecessary stuff and do the bare minimum really good. Doing so will be enough work, but it's manageable and a starting point for future improvements.
For a musician it may be interesting to take a yearly subscription (let's say the price for a new album). Your subscriber would get every song for "free" plus your are not bound to a few songs on each album. Further you could make special offers for concerts, merchandise etc. and you have a fan base/mailing list to promote yourself.
It's interesting that there are no well known books written by a group of people. It works in movies and series, if you want even with music. So why not with books? I think it can work out great.
